So I’m a big fan of internet research, fact figures and what not. But it never fails that the info I need is in 30 different spots and I have to read through a bunch of stuff to grab the basic facts I need. So I’ve compiled a short list of links and resources you will need to locate the gold, the spots and just the general information you need to navigate the San Gabriel mountains East fork public access area. Gold Panning the east fork of the San Gabriel river is quickly becoming a great hobby for a lot of local Southern California prospectors.
A nice abridged history of the East fork mining area can be found here.
If your interested in general first hand accounts of gold panning trips. The folks over at Treasurenet have a great gold prospecting forum.
Great video story of a man who last year found a 3/4 ounce nugget with a Minelab metal detector. East fork offers great spots for crevice digging and nugget shooting.
Red Tail Trails has a great write up including directions to get to East Fork. They are a focused hiking website but I’ve always used them for ideas and trails that can lead me to another potential prospecting spot.
